Tanya Smith [00:00:00]:
Sa Sam Foreign folks. We had to do a little bit of switching around some things, but it's all good. First of all, welcome to the show. This is stream like a boss, y' all. If you're not familiar and aware, I want you to go ahead and type in a hashtag newbie if this is your very first time. Hashtag newbie is what we do when we're brand new. Hashtag, hashtag OG is. If you've ever watched any of our episodes before, I want you to go ahead and pop that into the chat and let me know where you're from.
Tanya Smith [00:01:32]:
Now, look, I had to switch gear because my platform that I usually use for some reason was not working. It may be because I was working overtime. I just left the Technologist forum with James Hicks, Jim Fuse, and my friend, my new friend Johnny, and we were hanging out and having a really great time talking about technology. You're definitely not going to want to miss that show on Thursdays. The technologist forum on YouTube and all the spaces. So we were broadcasting everywhere, I think Hicks, you said it was probably at least 10 different places, which is crazy. But let's talk about what tonight's topic is about, because here's the thing. If you have ever been in a situation where you felt like, hey, going live means that I have to write this full script, or I just hope that I don't go blank midstream and I'm not really sure how to prepare or to plan, well, today's episode is going to be all about planning and the scripting.
Tanya Smith [00:02:30]:
And I want to give you a couple of different ways that you can actually prepare a script for your live streams. Now, will things go wrong? Yes, they will. But the reason why I like to plan by using a script of some kind is because then it gives me some structure that I can hang on to. And if for some reason the topic seems to go in a different direction over time, as you do live streaming more frequently, you become a lot more competent at understanding flow and you can pick up wherever you feel. But if you're brand new, it might be a little bit harder. It's a little bit more difficult to kind of figure those things out. So having a script is a perfect way to be prepared to and to feel more confident when you step into the seat and you're ready to do your live stream. Now, this can be whether you're doing streams on substack or somewhere else.
Tanya Smith [00:03:24]:
It really doesn't matter where you're going. The preparation and the time that you put into the script itself is going to make all the difference because it's going to help you to stay on point, on target. It's going to help you to make sure that you're speaking to the audience that you have chosen to speak to because you've prepared for that. And I'll give you even some advice in regards to how I'm using different tools to help me to actually put my script together. Now I'm using a lot more AI. But previously, before I ever even thought about adopting AI into my workflows, I had a structure and I had tools and systems in place. So I'm going to share a little bit of that with you as well. Okay, let me do this.
Tanya Smith [00:04:05]:
Since we're in. We're in restream and you might be wondering what that thing is that's rolling down here at the bottom. It came from my earlier show on Tuesday. I forgot to turn it off. But hey, I'm glad that it's there because it's reminding me to let you know that if you're not already over on Substack, if you go ahead and type in livestream summer school.com when we're done here, you'll be joining an amazing group of people. I'm seeing some folks that are over there right now who have typed into the chat watching from Guatemala, that's Sean Radiance by Retilia said it was so good. The Technologist forum. I told you.
Tanya Smith [00:04:41]:
Yes. Thank you so much. Tanya Fisher. There's a lot of folks that are over here, so thank you so much. Ken Dewey Gosh, Charlotte, thank you for being on the sub stack space. We're going to have a lot of fun. June 16th through the 18th, y' all, is when Live Stream Summer School is taking place. Let me go ahead and turn off that scroll so that we can go ahead and focus in on tonight's topic.
Tanya Smith [00:05:05]:
Okay. Because I did have to do a little switcheroo between platforms and I had all my bullet points and all of that stuff laid out in the other one. It's all good. I'm just going to type some things in here. This is the thing that I always share with you whenever we do these streaming shows. The live stream shows on Thursday are typically jam packed and sometimes it's not all about the script. Sometimes there are things that will come up because of your questions. So I want to make sure that, you know, you can ask questions and I can answer those as best I can if there's something I can't answer or I don't have a resource for.
Tanya Smith [00:05:40]:
I'll be honest and tell you, I promise. But let me do this because I want to go ahead and acknowledge some folks that are in the chat, and I'm going to turn on what's called chat overlay. Since we're inside of Restream, we'll do that for now. I don't always leave this up because a tip, you never know, especially if you're broadcasting in public places, there could be that one person who has come there not for your good. Right. So I'm good about understanding and knowing the dashboard so that I can turn things off and block when I need to. But right now, we've got nothing but amazing people in here that I know. This is family.
Tanya Smith [00:06:17]:
It's a bunch of OGs in the house. Good to see each and every one of you. Okay, look, when we talk about this whole concept, this idea of scripting, first and foremost. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm glad that you're coming to Live Stream Summer school. Let me move this out of the way, and let's do this. I'm going to pull up my notes for you. I told you why or I shared with you.
Tanya Smith [00:06:45]:
I think why it's important for you to have a script, but I'm also going to give you an option because not everybody is super structured. I know I'm one of those type A personalities, y' all. Can I be honest? Okay, so look, if you're a type A personality, I want you to type in the letter A. And if that's not you, I want you to just put a zero, like that's not me at all. I just go with the flow. Okay, Type A. Type in an A. So I know if I got family with me on that, if you understand.
Tanya Smith [00:07:18]:
But there are people who are not type A people and those people who are not type A's. You do love the flow. You love the joy of being able to just come out the gate and just give. Right? But I'm going to give you three specific points or ways in which you can actually do this. Actually, I'm giving you four different styles of scripts that you can use. So here's what we're going to do. We'll start with the first one. This is the first tip before we get into the four.
Tanya Smith [00:07:47]:
There's a myth that there's a perfect script. There's no such thing. It's never going to be perfect. And here's why. Because if you truly are working with the people that you enjoy working with, and you truly have begun to build a community like I have, of amazing people like Enrique. I see you there. Wonderful to see you. And by the way, Enrique Acosta Gonzalez is in the process of trying to get to his 1000 on YouTube.
Tanya Smith [00:08:16]:
So, Enrique, pop in the chat. Go ahead and put that in there. Put your YouTube. And I don't do this all the time, but I do want to do this for you. Put in your YouTube channel into the chat so I can share it with the folks, because you're real close to a thousand, and I want to make sure you hit it. We want to try to hit that this week if we can. So pop that in here. But, yeah, Talk Virtual said, I'm an O, but I like when we follow the rules.
Tanya Smith [00:08:43]:
I know, right? Here's another. This is a friend of mine, type A. You and I, we're like this. So I do see some A's all the way. Truth. I love it, y' all. Thank you. Thank you for letting me know I am not alone.
Tanya Smith [00:09:00]:
And yes, I see Dewey over in Substack saying I need to be more A. I do love the flow, though. Look, and we can love it. We can love all of them. So I'm going to give something for everyone, right? I'll make sure everybody has something that you can walk away with. But there is no perfect script. And where I was going with that is that sometimes you're going to need to interrupt the flow a little bit. Okay? So as much as you might have intentions to talk about a specific topic, here's why.
Tanya Smith [00:09:28]:
I stopped planning out my live streams. For an entire year, I had a whole system that was doing that, right? And so all I had to do was just walk in each week and be like, boom, this is what the next episode is going to be. But I shifted because of this. Sometimes there's going to be a little intuitive nudge that's telling you you need to speak on something different, and you need to give yourself the grace to be able to do that. So that's what I mean when I say that we have different ways of flowing when it comes to scripts, but I do like the idea of having preparation and being prepared to talk about something, because it removes all of the excuses that you're giving yourself and other people for not showing up, because you do have an idea. You do know what you want to talk about. But you also are giving yourself the grace and to shift and pivot a little bit if you need to. All right, Enrique, let's go ahead and show him some Love right now if you can and if you're interested in the topic that he's talking about.
Tanya Smith [00:10:32]:
And of course I don't want you to leave my channel. I want you to stay here so we can talk right now. But at the same time, I will pop this back up at the end because we want to help him to get to his thousand. So I definitely will do that. Oh, and we already have people helping out. This is the kind of love we show here at Stream. Like a boss. This is our community.
Tanya Smith [00:10:51]:
I love this. Dan Tana, what's up? You know, you always walking into something good. We're talking about script planning right now. Okay. So the first tip really is that there is no such thing as a perfect script. Okay. Some people are think going to think that they have to wing it. Some people are going to think they have to write a word for word speech.
Tanya Smith [00:11:14]:
It's what works for you. The reality is that you just need clarity. You don't necessarily need a teleprompter. I've been doing this thing now for several years, at least five years where I've been doing this live stream, right? Maybe four, maybe five. I gotta go back and look at the date now. But I just this year bought a teleprompter. Literally. And most of the time I don't even use it.
Tanya Smith [00:11:43]:
I like the prompter for this reason. Now other people are like, oh, I love my prompter and I have to have it in front of me. So this is why I'm saying there's a difference. Okay. You are a unique individual so you have to do what works for you. I typically will use a prompter when I really want to get the fine details of whatever it is I'm trying to say. I want to make sure sure that gets said, for instance, in a sales video. So if I'm doing a video sales letter.
Tanya Smith [00:12:11]:
But when I'm doing these live streams, I tend to go with one of the four planning styles that I'm going to share with you. Okay, so let's go ahead and dive into segment two or tip two, which is basically the four live stream planning styles. We get need to get into this and yeah, just like learn live streaming with John Lacey says John says some people speak really informally and write really formally and I think the sweet spot is meeting somewhere in the middle. Yeah, I mean it is what works for you. Now I came from a corporate background speaking on that for a minute before we get into the four styles. I came from a corporate training background. I actually used to do Training. Like when we rolled out in my corporate environment, we rolled out Microsoft Office for the first time.
Tanya Smith [00:12:59]:
I was one of those people that was traveling from state to state and teaching our employees how to use Microsoft Office. And. And I had to be very formal. And at the time, we were still wearing blazers and suits and all that kind of stuff, right? And I honestly started bringing that into my live streams initially because I thought that's what I was supposed to be. So I'm going to tell y' all the evolution of how this thing went down. I thought I had to come in and I had to look like corporate, you know, and I had to have everything structured and I had to, you know, be wearing the clothes and have the makeup on and all of that. And that became a roadblock because it felt like a job. It felt like a job.
Tanya Smith [00:13:38]:
And if streaming feels like a job to you, instead of being a way to. A vehicle for your passion, right, and for what you love to talk about, it can become very difficult to do it on a regular basis. So I'm just going to be honest. But then I made this shift. I went all the way to the other end of the spectrum because I started watching other people on camera and I was like, oh, well, now even though I'm an introvert, I need to pretend to be an extrovert. And so then I was like, okay, let me bounce off the walls. That's not my style either. The sweet spot, just like you said, John Lacey.
Tanya Smith [00:14:15]:
The sweet spot for me, and hopefully you'll find yours, is figuring out how I actually like to talk to people in conversation. Because getting on camera is truly just about you having a conversation, a discussion. I'm engaging with people that are here in the chat. I'm engaging with people, actually. Multiple chats. Right. I see you. I love that you're here.
Tanya Smith [00:14:42]:
I'm communicating with you. I love you said, I love when my lives are driven by the spirit. Whatever works for you. I want you to go all in on that. Different audiences will require different tones. Look, all the wisdom that's up in here. Matt says hello. What's up, Matt? I love it.
Tanya Smith [00:15:02]:
Carlos Phoenix. Phoenix said. Very true. Thank you. And that's the thing. You have to find that sweet spot for you. And the same thing is going to apply with these four styles. But if you don't know where to start, this is why you're here with me, because I'm helping you to get started by giving you some nudges and some ideas that maybe you didn't think about.
Tanya Smith [00:15:21]:
Before. So let's go with number one. The first of the four live stream planning styles is for the outline lover. The outline lover likes to section off their headers and add three bullets per idea. And this is great for coaches and teachers who love structure. And to be honest with you, that one is me. She is me. The person I just described.
Tanya Smith [00:15:48]:
Now, let me share with you exactly the tool that I started using. I'm going to pull it on over here, and I probably haven't had this up for a minute, so. So let me see. I might need to log in and then I'm going to share screen so that you can actually see it in action. Right. This particular tool is called Workflowy. Now, Workflowy worked very well for me for a long time, and, yeah, I just was able to pull it up. So I'm going to show you the way that I was templating out my bullet points.
Tanya Smith [00:16:19]:
So the outline. Actually there's. The second person is going to be the bullet point buddy. The first one's Outline Lover. And they really kind of. They kind of merge a little bit. You'll see what I'm talking about in just a second because I'm going to pull this up now. What I am loving right now about all of the tools everywhere, and I just said this in the Technologist forum, is that you never know.
Tanya Smith [00:16:42]:
The tool that you've been using might end up adopting AI and start using it. And it looks like they have started using AI over here in Workflow. Let's pull it up so you can see what I'm talking about. We're going to do that real quick here. Okay. I need to share my screen so you can actually see it. So let's do that. All right, here we go.
Tanya Smith [00:17:03]:
And let's get rid of that QR code. You all know I had to shift a little bit, so here we go. Okay. So this is called Workflowy. Okay. Workflowy is a tool that allows you to create bunches and bunches and bunches of outlines. So if you're an outline lover, I'm just gonna tell you this is really great. And here's what I mean.
Tanya Smith [00:17:29]:
Let me open this one that has 20, 25 episodes. It might look a little bit messy, but I'm gonna show you what I was doing with this. Okay, first of all, in Workflowy, you can actually create templates. And so what I was doing previously, and I don't do this as much in this moment because I have a different structure that I'm following, but but if you're an outliner, this basically allows you to create outlines. And so what I did is I created a template that I could use over and over again for my episodes. And so I started with the intro. And so here's what happens is this breaks down into different sections and let me open it up this way so you can just see this one. This is fun because they have added AI.
Tanya Smith [00:18:18]:
They didn't have this before. I'm just now seeing this so you can chat with your notes. I'm going to turn it on just so we have it there. But. Okay, so when I say that you're able to create templates, typically there's three parts to a script when it comes to your live stream. Okay. And this can apply as well to your shorts and reels and that type of thing. But it's just going to be on a different level.
Tanya Smith [00:18:40]:
So I'm only going to talk about long form live streams right now. And I'm gonna probably go a little bit deeper into this particular flow than I will the other styles. Okay, so for those of you who mentioned in the comments that you're a type A, this is for you. This is for you and for me. The other thing I'm gonna do real quick here. Let's see if we can do it this way. Yeah, I gotta get used to this again. Okay.
Tanya Smith [00:19:09]:
Okay. Something's going on with my video, so let me fix that. It may be because I'm. Yeah, I've got different things up. Okay, here we go. So what this is is I've broken it up into the intro, the main content and the close. Okay, so in the intro, when I'm outlining, I'm looking at, okay, well, do I want to use a countdown timer or not? Now people like my friend Chris Stone will say, don't do it, take it off. I have my reasons.
Tanya Smith [00:19:39]:
It does help me to do the woo sa when I'm doing the countdown timer. Y' all just can't see all that, right? But he says, don't do that. Just dive into your content. So, you know, let me fix this. I see it's doing something funky, so I'm going to switch camera over to that right there. Okay. Yeah. I don't know what's happening.
Tanya Smith [00:20:06]:
I might have some. I might have a bit of an Internet issue. Plus I've got a lot of windows open. So I'm going to take myself off camera and we're just going to focus on the screen. Let's do that for a little bit. Okay. So if you can still hear me. Just let me know.
Tanya Smith [00:20:23]:
All right. Workflowy. Yes, Sharon, Workflow is bomb. It is. It's still good. I don't use it as often anymore, but I still do love it. I do. All right, so here's what I'm going to do, is walk you through this.
Tanya Smith [00:20:38]:
Okay? So in the intro, you're going to basically put the information that you want in your intro. Then I would go into main content, and I would have. Okay, what am I doing? Am I talking about key points? Usually I will stop at about three key points, but depending on how long. Depending on how long you're going to, you could have more. Right. So if you're doing some. Something like a keynote, you can still use this template but have less than seven points. That's the max that I put on here.
Tanya Smith [00:21:10]:
But typically for a live stream, I'm doing three to four max points. Okay. I always have the similar opening. And then once I'm done with the main body, then I'm going to head into the close. Okay. And then the close is where I'm going to have my call to action. And then I have a common close, just like I have a common opening. So many of you have heard me say, hey, type in hashtag OG type in hashtag newbie, because that's part of my opening.
Tanya Smith [00:21:42]:
Right? And people get to know that, and they rely on that, and they know when they hear it. They're recognizing that this is stream, like a boss tv. Okay? So when I'm creating this type of outline, the thing I like about workflowy is this. Not only can you use it or see it in outline form, but they also have other versions of this. So they have board version where you can expand each of the columns, and you can just kind of check each one of these off as you go through. And so this might be on a screen that's right underneath my camera, which is where I can be talking it through. So this is one of the ways that I actually create a script, is through using a tool like Workflowy. Or if I choose not to use Workflowy, it might just be a Google Doc, y' all.
Tanya Smith [00:22:30]:
As a matter of fact, here's the other thing I'm going to show you. So I'm getting ready to show you all my little secrets. But you can't tell anybody. Actually, you can. You can tell other people to come watch if it might help them. But I'm going to show you how I do this in Google Docs in just a second. Let me See if for any reason I can actually fix my camera. Just going to try and shut down because I had two cameras on.
Tanya Smith [00:22:56]:
And so that may also have created the problem. Actually, I think I have three cameras on, which is crazy. So can we get one of them to work? That would be nice. Yeah. Still having issues. Okay. It could just be Internet glitching. There could be something going on.
Tanya Smith [00:23:16]:
So I'm going to turn my face off for now. Y' all know who I am. It's all good. Let's go ahead and go to the behind the scenes secret. So I'm going to take you to Google Docs and I'm going to take you into. Let's see what we're going to do. We will do. We'll go into Google Docs and we'll go into live stream scripts.
Tanya Smith [00:23:36]:
Okay. So recently, I don't know if you've noticed this, and this is very recent for me, which is why you're not seeing a lot of them here yet. But I will start adding things into my Google Docs. What I'm doing now is I'm leveraging the subheadings, right? So now over on Google Docs, you're able to create document tabs for everything and sub tabs too. So what I could do right here is say, hey, this is going to be my live stream scripts for Q1. I'm gonna say Q2, 20, 25, right. Season seven. And over here, this becomes.
Tanya Smith [00:24:16]:
And what I should have done is added my sub tab for. We're gonna call this. Even though I don't have it in there, because I have it in this. I just started using this system, but I'm showing it to you so you can see how this is working for me. I like this setup because it's super easy. So now one of the reasons why I switched over to Google Docs is because I have given my chat GPT. I've created a custom GPT that is a live video specialist that understands my flow. Look at this, Hicks.
Tanya Smith [00:24:50]:
I've got one for our show that we just did. I've got one that I'm working with right now, y' all. Okay. But I've given it a script template. And so when I go into my chatgpt, my custom GPT, I'm telling it, hey, go ahead and use my solo script template or use my guest interview template to break this thing down. Give me all the segments. Make sure that not only are you giving me each of the segments, but you're also adding an engagement prompt after each and every one of my key message points to invite people to participate in the chat. I'm also giving it the instruction to ensure that you are giving me my common opening and my common close.
Tanya Smith [00:25:39]:
So giving it those type of instructions is going to give you an output that you can really work well with. So if you're an outline type of person, this is going to be a beautiful way for you to be able to use this. And I hope you see the power and the benefit of that. All right, I'm gonna try to test this camera again and see if it will work. And we'll switch over here and just. Okay, I'm here. We just go with the flow. Live streaming, live happens.
Tanya Smith [00:26:16]:
Everybody who's a live streamer with me, you just know that's the mantra. Woo sa. Live stream happens. Okay, so here's the next thing. Outline people, outline lovers. You'll love something like that. Either using like a Google Docs or Microsoft Word or a workflow, it can be really effective for you and it helps to keep things structured and organized. But for those of you who are not super type A people, you might be like, oh, my God, that was overwhelming.
Tanya Smith [00:26:44]:
I have smoke coming out of my ears. I totally get it. So you might be the bullet point buddy or the sticky note strategist person. Okay, now a bullet point buddy is going to be a person that doesn't write out as much as what I just wrote out. Because they're like, no, I don't need to do all of that. I know pretty much what I want to talk about. I just need to put some bullets in place. And so you too can still use a tool like Google Docs or Microsoft Word or any of those things.
Tanya Smith [00:27:16]:
Workflowy too. You can use any of that if you choose to. You can create an entire dashboard in ClickUp or in Notion, wherever you want to create it, but you can simply say, I just want the bullet points. And one of the ways that you can effectively use AI to do this if you're not using one of my custom GPTs is you can tell it, hey, okay, I want to talk about this specific topic. And if you've trained it well, which we can talk about at another time, and it's going to understand your tone, personality, voice and style and all of those things. But you're going to say here, this is my target audience. You know who my ICA is. By the way, Chat GPT specifically knows what an ICA is.
Tanya Smith [00:27:59]:
It's an ideal client avatar. Okay? So if it's given you or if you've given it instructions on who that is, you can say, this is the title or this is the concept that I want to talk about. Just give me three key bullet points, and there you go. You can run with those three bullet points. And matter of fact, what you can do, and we'll talk about this more in live stream summer school, is you can actually add those bullet points into your app. So, for instance, I'm using right now in this moment, Restream. So Restream has a space that's called notes. And what I literally could do right there is type in my three bullet points or copy and paste them over in there.
Tanya Smith [00:28:44]:
And so then I can just take those bullet points and go, bullet point one, bullet point two, and hit those and then be done with my stream. So if you're a bullet point buddy, if that's what you want to use, if that's your style, then that's a simple way for you to be able to leverage that too. Now, my sticky note strategists are old school. Y' all are the people who I first started working with, and you are me. When I first started doing streams, I didn't have complex scripts and all of that stuff written out. I didn't understand my flow and my systems. I just knew that I had committed to being on camera once a week for an entire year to see if that thing was going to work. That's what I did.
Tanya Smith [00:29:27]:
And I knew that I needed to talk about certain things, and I knew that sometimes I can go off topic. So if that's you, but you don't want all the structure. You just want to get started. Sticky notes is what worked for me, and I'm talking about physical sticky notes. I wish I had a notepad in front of me right now, but sticky notes is what worked for me. I just used the little yellow sticky notes. You can have pink or blue if you choose, or green. You know, there's a bunch of different colors, but writing a specific note.
Tanya Smith [00:29:59]:
And this goes for you all who have. If you've got the ring lights, this is really fun for those of you who have ring lights. Now, I don't have a ring light, and I haven't had one for a long time. But if you're using a ring light, you just place the sticky notes in strategic positions around your light. So 1, 2, 3. So you again, it's kind of like the bullet point buddy, but it's a little bit more manual. And if that's you. So tech troublemaker.
Tanya Smith [00:30:32]:
Yeah. Love sticky notes. If you're a sticky note fan, you gotta pop it in here, pop it in the chat. As a matter of fact, if you're a sticky note fan, I want you to type in what color of sticky notes do you love? Do you love the traditional yellow? Do you want to go with the blue? The pink, the green? What's your color of sticky note? Pop that into the chat. Let me see which one you are. Okay. Desk is covered in all colors. Hello, Talk virtual.
Tanya Smith [00:31:02]:
Yep, yep, that's. That's totally fair. And I can see that for you. Okay, so putting those sticky notes around your space, whatever that might look like, could be enough. That could be sufficient to drive the conversation and to share the message that you want to get across. The key is with all of these different styles that you're trying to stay on target with the conversation. You're trying to. Not just trying to, you're delivering on the promise that you made when you shared that you were going to go live about a specific topic.
Tanya Smith [00:31:43]:
Because here's what can happen and this is what I want you to avoid. Please hear my heart on this. If you've ever been in a situation where let's say that you're the audience member. Okay, let's put you in that seat like you are now. If you were my audience member and you came to a live stream based on the topic I said I was going to talk about in the description that I put in there. And then you came in here and I was talking about something totally different. I'm not delivering on the promise. Now, that may sound like it's just naggy, but here's what that does.
Tanya Smith [00:32:23]:
It creates distrust. And what you're trying to do with your live streams with these conversations is to build trust and credibility. You're trying to position yourself as a trusted advisor, right? A go to person who does what they said. A person who fulfills their commitment. So you want to use scripts of some kind or have some type of structure, whether it's sticky notes or something else, because that's going to help you to deliver on the promise that you made when you said you were going to be doing the talk. Okay, that is the key. But there are going to be times and I do see some folks with purple. I love it.
Tanya Smith [00:33:07]:
Educated, natural. Okay, so you're a bullet point buddy and a sticky note user. Yes, yes, yes, yes. I love it. Nathalie said the number. The AI prompt about inviting the attendees to participate in the chat is fire. Yes, thank you, ma' am. I think the important thing is that you have some way of delivering on the promise.
Tanya Smith [00:33:30]:
Now, here's the last style that I'm going to share with you in this style. It goes with what I said earlier in that there are going to be times where intuitively your spirit is telling you something different. You may have received questions from audience members, community members, people who are in your space. Right. That you want to answer because it's timely. And the thing about today, the thing about the environment and technology, as we talked about in the technologist forum, is that things are moving at such a fast pace right now. So what I usually do now instead of planning for an entire year of live streaming is I plan 90 days. That way I have something in the hopper if I need it, but I can also have some grace to adjust, to be in tune with what's happening in the moment, to be on trend with what's happening right now in this season.
Tanya Smith [00:34:29]:
Right? So I can make shifts now. The power in having themes, as I do in this moment, like the season theme for right now, season seven, is about authenticity. It's about being real and genuine. It's about owning your style and knowing what that is. And that's why we can talk about this within that theme. Theme. When you're doing freestyle flow, which is the last style, it won't always be about structure. Sometimes it literally is just coming.
Tanya Smith [00:35:01]:
It's pouring out of your heart, it's pouring out of your soul. It's something that just needs to be said, and that's okay. You may not have formal notes at all. You may simply just have a goal or a theme in mind. You may just have a specific call to action that you've told yourself you're committed to achieving. And when you do that, let it roll. Because sometimes those can be the best conversations. And you may not connect with the same people that you normally do with the structured flow.
Tanya Smith [00:35:37]:
It may hit somebody, though, that needs it right at the right time. So another mantra that I adapt, I adopted when I first started doing live streaming is this right person, right message, right time. The reason I adopted that mantra is because I recognized that sometimes I just needed to allow myself to speak on the thing that was in my heart. Because it was meant for somebody, it might have been meant for one person. The other reason why I came up with that is this. I didn't have a whole lot of people like, I see all of you beautiful people here in the chat, on both sides, both in. In substack as well as on the other channels here. I see that that's not what was happening before.
Tanya Smith [00:36:28]:
What was happening before is I had crickets. And so I almost got discouraged. Remember, I said for a year, I committed to a year for a reason, because I knew if I gave up too soon, I wouldn't be able to see the fruits of the labor that I was putting into this thing. So that's another lesson for you. Kind of a bonus tip. But what I realized is that sometimes those moments of flow would hit the right person at the right time with the right message because they come back. They'd either be watching the replay or they come into my DMs a week or two later and say, I'm so thankful that you shared that thing. I'm so grateful that I heard that message or I saw you talk about this on your video, because I needed that.
Tanya Smith [00:37:19]:
I can tell y' all right now, if I were to go through a lot of my different comments, because I go through every single one, I want to respond to people so specifically on my YouTube channel, I will go through and make sure that I am literally reading and responding to people's comments. You can test it. Okay. Test it out if you want to try it. But the reason for that, if. If I go back through just even the past couple of years, there's so many times when someone has said that to me and I didn't even know they were watching. So that last style, which we are calling freestyle flow, the reason why that's so beautiful, you're not going to do it all the time. More than likely, especially if this is related to your business.
Tanya Smith [00:38:06]:
If you're doing live streaming like I am, because it's connected to your income and to your cash flow, sometimes you're going to have structure. A lot of times you're going to have structure. But every now and then, you're going to be in flow. And when you are and when you put yourself out there and you show your vulnerability and you speak from the heart, it's going to hit the right person with the right message at the right time. I Love it, too, Dr. Vibe. I do. Now.
Tanya Smith [00:38:35]:
I love this tip that's coming from the chat. It's also okay to mix styles. I mix bullet points and free flow. I'm doing it right now. Exactly. Because I don't have all these things that I'm sharing with you on a piece of paper. A lot of it is. But some of it is coming out because of your comments and because of what you're sharing.
Tanya Smith [00:39:00]:
Right. Some of it is. Is driven by what you're putting into the chat. And so you'll learn. You may not know this now, but you will learn over time how to go with the flow, how to really listen. The number one tip I can give you as it relates to your script is to be curious and to listen for the nudges. That means for you, from yourself, right? The nudges that are coming internally, but also from within the chat. So pay attention to what people are asking and what they're saying, because there may be something that needs to be clarified or there may be something that's really resonating that you just need to drive home.
Tanya Smith [00:39:48]:
All right, so those are our four styles, y' all. Thank you. Sean over in substack, let me see. Sean says, I was talking. I use talking points and questions for live streams or podcast interviews recording the daily episodes. I have a script and teleprompter because it's seven minutes or less, so I want to stay on course. Absolutely. And so for those of you who love to use a teleprompter, that's an excellent way to actually have your script right there in front of you.
Tanya Smith [00:40:18]:
If you don't have an actual physical teleprompter, I use the Elgato prompter, if anybody is curious. If you don't have that, there are. There's software, there are apps. Big View is one of them. There's another one that I haven't used in a very long time. I have to think of it, and I'll try to put it into the description if anybody ever needs it. But on my phone, I have one. Let me see if I can find the name of the one that's on my phone.
Tanya Smith [00:40:47]:
The one I have on my phone I really do love a lot. I think it's called teleprompter. Yeah, that's what it's called. It has an orange icon, and it's called teleprompter. So I have that just to have those bullets in front of me. But literally, you could use the sticky notes, physical sticky notes, to put on your monitor or screen near your camera. Now, the adjustment for you, if you're brand new, is going to be that you still need to make sure you're looking directly into the camera lens. And as best you can, over time, you'll learn how to do that.
Tanya Smith [00:41:22]:
It may not be easy at first. The reason why you're doing that is because you want people on the other end to know that you're talking directly to them. It's as if you're having a one on One conversation, you'll learn to do that. And you can scan your notes because if you have something like workflowy, maybe it's directly under your camera so you can just kind of scan it. That's why I love bullet points and outlines, so I can quickly figure out where I am and where I need to be. All right, yes. Right person, right message, right time. Thank you for popping that in there, Sean, for the substack, folks.
Tanya Smith [00:42:02]:
Okay, let me recap. I'm going to recap our tips there. And here's the other thing I want to do before I recap those. This is a final tip. I don't want to miss this one because it's in my script. How to choose your style. If you're not sure what's right for you, here's how you can figure it out. Reflect on how you naturally enjoy to explain things.
Tanya Smith [00:42:33]:
How do you naturally do this when you're talking with your children, when you're talking with your spouse, if you're talking with a friend? I like to imagine that I'm talking with someone over a cup of coffee when I do these streams. That's what I'm imagining, is that we're chill. This is why I created the environment that I did and why I wanted it to be warm and vibrant and to be a space where people feel comfortable. Because I want you to feel comfortable asking me questions and feel like, hey, I know her. I've run into people in the grocery store and the drugstore who are like, I know you. And they start talking to me about kids and dogs and all kinds of stuff because I'm creating that environment. So you have to think about what is the environment I want to create and then reflect on how you like to naturally explain things. Ask yourself, how do you thrive? Do I thrive with a roadmap or roadmap or do I just need the markers along the way? Which one do I need? Am I a scripted out person? Am I a bullet point person? The one thing I would caution you against is don't make these things too lengthy.
Tanya Smith [00:43:46]:
Because if you make something too lengthy with your script, you're reading it and then it does not feel authentic for your viewers. Going to challenge you to try using a script with one of the three styles this week. Try it on your next live stream and then report back, like, send me a message and let me know how it went. You can write it underneath this video or if you're in one of my communities, let me know. But that's my challenge to you is try using one of the styles. So let's talk about the styles. I'm going to give you the four again, okay? Outline lover. My outline lover people, you like the sections, you like the bullets, you like to put everything together in a nice little package like I showed you on Workflowy.
Tanya Smith [00:44:35]:
You may or may not use a tool. You might end up saying, I don't want to pay for another subscription. I'm just going to use what I have. Word, Google Docs, right? But you're using something and it feels a little bit more robust and more structured. You might be that outline lover. If you're the bullet point buddy, you're just gonna have a few bullet points. You're the road marker person. You're like, I don't need the whole map, just give me the markers.
Tanya Smith [00:45:01]:
I know where I'm going. If you're the sticky note strategist, leaving all that electronic stuff behind, you just gonna put the sticky notes where you can see em. And as you go through each one, you know that you've talked about the point you wanted to cover. And then our last style is freestyle flow. And that is going to happen in those situations where you truly are just being guided by your intuition, by your spirit, by the things that are taking place in the chat, by the conversations that you've had previously, you know, ahead of time, ahead of your stream, by information that may have come out of nowhere at you and you feel like this needs to be shared with folks. Right? Those are the styles that I encourage you to lean into and choose a good mix of them as you see fit. Don't ever let anybody tell you it's one way. What you're doing right now is not even wrong.
Tanya Smith [00:45:57]:
What I'm saying to you is that it could help improve the flow if you choose a style. Okay, so if you want more support with this, we're going to talk a little bit more about this inside of Substack. So I want to make sure, sure that I don't forget to pull up the livestream summer school.com. so let me pull that up real fast and I'm going to also answer questions. If you have any, pop them into the chat because now's a good time for me to cover your questions. But let me pop up live stream summer summer school at the bottom here so that you have that because it's a free event where you and I and other people too are going to be hanging out and you don't really have to sign up for anything. If you're a subscriber already on my Substack account. Whether you're free or in a paid but which by the way, I have nine folks inside of my paid chat now.
Tanya Smith [00:46:54]:

So if you go to Enrique's channel and it's a topic that's of interest to you, feel free to subscribe and help him to reach his 1000 goal. I like to give back and I hope that that will give in some way.
Tanya Smith [00:48:30]:
Alrighty folks, Checking over here real quick on my sub stack channel, folks, to see if you have any questions or comments. Yeah, I have some folks that are saying you've trained your chat, your AI pretty well. Good, because it's super helpful for creating workflows and systems. And while I won't go too deep into that in our Livestream Summer School, I will probably probably give some insights along those lines as well because I have some classes that are going to be coming up very soon around the things that apparently people are seeing me do they. They want me to teach them how to do and do effectively. I've already created a shop called AI for streamers@aiforstreamers.com and I'm building out some programs around that. So stay tuned okay, folks, that's it. That's all we got for this evening.
Tanya Smith [00:49:22]:
Thank you for hanging out with me. I know we had a few little technical difficulties, but we got through it and we got you the information. Hopefully that will be of use to you the most. So thank you. I appreciate you, Enrique. I hope you make that thousand this week. We're going to help you to get there. Awesome.
Tanya Smith [00:49:43]:
